Description:
Rorschach’s Travelogue is an interactive video art work that explores the complex “projection” relationships formed by algorithms in contemporary society through the ongoing interpretation of audience identity by artificial intelligence. The work engages with issues of data ethics, individual privacy, and self-perception within a machine-driven world. Structurally and conceptually, it draws from the “projection” concept in the Rorschach inkblot test, where individuals reveal inner emotions and cognitive patterns through their responses to ambiguous, symmetrical images.
At the core of the work is a dual projection process. A virtual character named “Rorschach,” symbolizing an omniscient AI, analyzes the audience’s appearance and projects them onto a real-world location. Based on this location, the AI generates a flowing, symmetrical image—reminiscent of a Rorschach inkblot—which abstracts and reinterprets the scene. Viewers are invited to associate and interpret the resulting imagery, forming their own connections between place and perception.
Through continuous “projection,” the biases of artificial intelligence emerge in a fluid and poetic form.
Technical Information:
The work is a real-time interactive generative image system, consisting of live video capture, OpenAI-based API integration (including GPT-4o for location association and text generation), and image generation through a text-to-image diffusion model (Stream Diffusion). The entire system is developed and executed within TouchDesigner, enabling visual transformation, symmetry processing, and multi-screen output in real time.
