SPARKS Presenter

Lauren Bedal explores the body as an interface for computational systems, working at the intersection of choreography, media art, and human–computer interaction. A Los Angeles–based artist and designer, she brings an embodied perspective to emerging technologies. Bedal spent years at Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects Group, where she helped develop the gesture and proximity-based interaction language for Project Soli, now embedded in devices worldwide. She currently leads product design at Archetype AI, creating interaction methods for physical AI systems that interpret multimodal sensor data.

Her media art practice merges choreography, computer vision, motion capture, and generative AI to investigate how machines perceive and imagine human movement. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, Wired, Forbes, and Dance Magazine, and she has presented at Harvard, CalArts, Columbia, Brown, Northeastern, and CCA. She is developing AI tools for choreographers through a Knight Foundation New Work Grant and is an artist-in-residence at LA Harbor Arts.
