Ken Rinaldo is an internationally recognized American artist and theorist whose interdisciplinary practice fuses art, biology, robotics, and artificial intelligence to explore collective human–nonhuman intelligences, emergent systems, and the evolving symbiosis of organic and technological life. Born in New York and based in Columbus, Ohio, he is Emeritus Professor of Art and Technology at The Ohio State University and leads the Emergent Systems art studio. Rinaldo’s large-scale interactive installations—such as Annica Antennae: Soil as Brain and Augmented Fish Reality—function as complex, responsive ecologies that challenge traditional boundaries between species and machines. His work has been exhibited globally at major institutions including the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art (Finland), the National Museum of Art (China), Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Ars Electronica (Austria), Nuit Blanche (Toronto), and Te Papa Museum (New Zealand). Rinaldo’s projects have earned prestigious honors such as an Ars Electronica Award of Distinction and the United Nations Green Leaf Award, and his art is widely published and featured in international media.
