Maria Jose Rios Araya is a media artist and researcher working at the intersection of textiles, embodied interaction, physical computing and artificial intelligence. Her practice investigates textiles as sensory and relational environments rather than passive technological surfaces. Through her Vestibles research platform, she has developed a series of textile-based works exploring touch, memory, materiality and audiovisual interaction. Her current research project, TmaqT, investigates adaptive textile interfaces in which tactile interaction is processed as an ephemeral, situated form of data, enabling new relationships between body, textile, machine learning and sound. Her work approaches human–AI interaction through materiality, embodied knowledge and situated perception, with particular interest in how textiles can become active participants in physical and digital environments.
