Roman Verostko (1929–2024) was an American artist and educator renowned for his pioneering work in algorithmic art. He developed software for creating code-generated imagery using a pen plotter adapted for oriental brushes. In 1995, he co-founded the Algorists with Jean-Pierre Hébert. Verostko received accolades including the Golden Plotter First Prize (1994) and an Ars Electronica honorable mention (1993). His work was exhibited globally in major exhibitions such as “Digital Pioneers” at the V&A, London, and “The Algorithmic Revolution” at ZKM, Karlsruhe. He was Professor Emeritus at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and was inducted into the SIGGRAPH Academy in 2018.
