Bianca Shonee Arroyo (also known as Shonee) is a Costa Rican-Canadian artist based in Montreal. Through several manifestations of the digital moving image, which include 3D animation, multi-channel video, sculpture, sound, speculative storytelling, and digital printing, she channels her personal experiences of displacement, memory, and media representation. Through a diasporic lens, she investigates how digital interfaces, as known tools of connection, can connect individuals with distant, vanishing natural environments, drawing inspiration from Latin America’s vivid landscapes. Her installations craft fantastical, satirical utopian futures influenced by science fiction, myths, and technology, encouraging reflection on our relationship with nature and our role in shaping its future.

Her work has been exhibited at international institutions such as DANAE in Paris, William Morris Gallery in London, PRIOR Art Space in Barcelona, and Platforms Project in Athens, as well as nationally at Whippersnapper Gallery in Toronto, and OPTICA: centre d’art contemporain in Montreal. Her recent awards include Grantham Foundation’s Visual Artist’s Prize, RBC Bank’s Emerging Artist Grant and EQ Bank’s 2021 Emerging Digital Artists Award.
