Jingyuan (Amber) Yang is a multidisciplinary media artist specializing in interactive installations, experimental sound design, and immersive media. She is currently pursuing a degree in Visual Media Arts at Emerson College. Rooted in her lived experience with bilateral nerve hearing impairment, her work explores the complex relationship between sound, identity, and societal perceptions of disability.
Growing up in an environment that stigmatized difference, Jingyuan developed an intense sensitivity to sound as a way to assert her capability—often at the cost of anxiety and disconnection. Her art translates these internal struggles into sensory experiences, revealing the emotional and psychological layers of navigating a sound-dominated world.
Originally working in analog film, sonic sculpture, and photography, Jingyuan now creates interactive systems using tools such as TouchDesigner, Arduino, and Unreal Engine. Her installations invite audiences to engage physically and emotionally with environments shaped by pressure, vulnerability, and restraint.
By transforming assistive technologies into expressive, reactive systems, her work imagines inclusive, emotionally intelligent futures—challenging dominant narratives about productivity, perfection, and human value in increasingly mechanized societies.
