Lucy Branscombe

Lucy Branscombe is a third-year student studying Fine Art ba (Hons) at Farnham UCA, soon to graduate in July 2024. Within her work, Branscombe examines the ethical foundations of power and technology’s role in organisational control. Her work critique’s militaristic themes and their impact on masculinity and marginalised groups, influenced by her experience being raised in a military environment.

Her art has evolved from sculptural works to digital explorations of AI in military contexts. Recent projects such as Новый мир (New World), is inspired by Russian history, humorously critiquing totalitarianism and AI development. Theoretical influences include Foucault, Sartre, and Virilio, with their ideas on existentialism, discipline, and dromology, alongside artists such as Suzanne Treister and Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley.

Branscombe’s goal is to provoke critical dialogue on power dynamics and technological progress, addressing military treatment, masculinity, and mental health to critique entrenched power structures.
