Mingyong Cheng (she/they) is a new media artist, researcher, and creative technologist based in San Diego. Her work explores how generative AI, digital art, and ecological inquiry intersect to reimagine the boundaries between human, machine, and nature. Currently completing a Ph.D. in Art Practice and Art History at UC San Diego, Cheng builds real-time systems that merge performance, computation, and interactivity to examine embodiment and intelligence through artistic collaboration. She is a part-time Creative Technologist at the San Diego Museum of Art and served as Consulting Creative Technologist for Dancing the Algorithm at Jacob’s Pillow Dance. Cheng holds dual BFAs from the Communication University of China and an MFA from Duke University. Her work has been exhibited internationally at SIGGRAPH, ISEA, NeurIPS, and CVPR, and recognized with honors including the IEEE TCPAMI Artist Award, the Speculative Futures Digital Arts Award, and the Muse Design Award (Gold, AI).
