Young Joo Lee

Young Joo Lee is a South Korean artist currently based in Paris. Lee’s work investigates the concept of the self, the other and the otherness found in history, literature, popular media, scientific research, and in her experiences of living across different cultures. In her recent works, Lee’s personal narratives as an immigrant, South Korean, and a woman interweave with the current, historical, and speculative narratives to investigate the issues of gender, race, technology, and spirituality in late capitalist society.
Lee is currently working on her practice-based doctoral thesis project about reimagining matriarchal system as an alternative to the white capitalist patriarchal system at École normale supérieure in Paris.
