Ziyue Piao is a creative technologist and Music Technology PhD candidate at McGill University. Grounded in vocal practice, her research investigates how non-visible somatic sensations and respiratory mechanics can be externalized and shared through smart textiles, cultivating embodied interaction for expressive movement and pedagogical communication. As a researcher-artist, she actively deploys these smart textiles and wearable interfaces in augmented singing performances to bridge hidden bodily states with real-time artistic expression. Piao has co-developed custom e-textile sensing garments with Yamaha Corporation and presented her research across premier HCI and music technology venues, including NIME, ACM CHI, ACM UbiComp/ISWC, and ACM TEI.
