Resistencias Calchaquíes in the Sumaq Kawsay
Description:
Resistencias Calchaquíes en el Sumaq Kawsay is a pixel art video installation from an iconographic research project developed for the Instituto de Arqueología y Museo de Tucumán (IAM). It reassembles escutiform (shield-shaped) figures reconstructed from archaeological tracings of Santamariano and Inca funerary urns, each produced through a four-step methodology — archive, sketch, pixel synthesis, validation — with archaeologists and anthropologists. Originally playable characters for a museum game on four historical resistances (Toad, Suri/Rhea, Condor, Serpent), the figures now march across a looping frieze over woven NOA/Andean patterns. Adapted for Changning District, Shanghai, the work reframes cultural heritage as living resistance.
