Description:
Fallen is a hybrid visual experiment constructed through a multi-disciplinary pipeline. We integrated live-action footage with 3D environments, utilizing Blender’s Geometry Nodes for procedural animation and EmberGen for volumetric simulations. These elements were unified via a multi-pass Nuke compositing workflow and an ACES color pipeline to achieve a seamless, cinematic aesthetic.
The project’s core innovation lies in its narrative structure: rather than a linear story, Fallen presents a “progression of visual and emotional states”. We personified Nature as an “angel,” whose physical degradation serves as a direct allegory for the Agricultural, Industrial, and Modern eras. By removing all dialogue, we established sound design as the “primary vehicle for storytelling,” utilizing spatial panning and layered MIDI textures to build an immersive, non-verbal emotional arc.
Responding to Speculative Futures, Fallen exposes the “fragile infrastructures” of our ecosystem. By immersing a living human actor into procedurally decaying environments, the project articulates a harrowing “alternative trajectory” for our collective future. It treats this creative practice as a “translational process” between humanity and the natural world, warning that our current path leads not to a technological wonder, but to a barren reality where nature is finally extinguished.
Technical Information:
This experimental VFX project integrates 4K live-action footage, shot on a Blackmagic camera, with a 3D pipeline using Blender, Nuke, and EmberGen. Procedural modeling (Geometry Nodes) and simulations for fog, fire, and particle disintegration were made to create atmospheric depth, then composited via a multi-pass Nuke workflow.
To unify the visual aesthetic, we utilized an ACES color pipeline in DaVinci Resolve, applying masking, film grain, and halation over basic Exposure and White Balance nodes. Designed in Ableton Live, the soundscape builds emotional depth using layered MIDI textures and spatial panning, with final mastering completed in Audacity.
