Joel Ong

Joel Ong is a media artist whose works connect scientific and artistic approaches to the environment, most recently in speculative futures of the atmosphere as a locus for affect, disruption and climate awareness. Recent works in bioart and creative data practices have been shown at festivals such as the Currents New Media Festival (2021), Art’s work in the Age of Biotechnology at NCSU (2020) and New Media Caucus exhibition at the Stamps Gallery (2019). Joel received the Petro-Canada Young Innovators Award in 2020, is Associate Professor in Computational Arts and Helen Carswell Chair in Community Engaged Research in the Arts, and former Director of Sensorium: Centre for Digital Arts and Technology at York University.
