Wolfgang Strauss

Monika Fleischmann (1950) and Wolfgang Strauss (1951) are internationally renowned German artists who have pioneered interactive media art. They set up art-science labs in research institutions to realize their dedicated work. In 1987 they were co-founders of ART + COM in Berlin. Later, they initiated MARS (Media Arts & Research Studies) and the eCulture Factory at major German research institutions such as GMD, the National Research Center for Information Technology, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Media Communication and for Artificial Intelligence. For “Home of the Brain” (1989), one of the first artistic virtual reality installations, they were awarded the Golden Nica for Interactive Art by the Prix Ars Electronica in 1992. In 2018, they were honored with the ACM SIGGRAPH Distinguished Artist Award for Lifetime Achievement in Digital Art, and Monika was inducted into the SIGGRAPH Academy.
