Murphy Nile (Ziling Zhou) is a transmedia artist based in Shanghai. He holds an MA in Computational Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a BA in Technoetic Arts from Roy Ascott Studio. His practice spans expanded animation, audiovisual performance, and simulated environments. His work often draws on familiar technical images and spaces, including office interfaces, transport displays, surveillance systems, market data, and digital architecture. Through repetition, movement, scale, and sound, he reorganizes these materials into environments that shift between familiar systems and simulated realities, exploring how technical images shape attention, perception, and behaviour.
He was a finalist for the Lumen Prize 2025 Experiential Award. His work has been presented at ISEA, SIGGRAPH DAC, Milan Machinima Festival, SUPERBOOTH Berlin, Galerie Met, Unreal Fest Shanghai, Cadillac Shanghai Concert Hall, West Bund Museum, and UFO Terminal.
