Description:
Urban life is built on the subjugation of Nature, yet we depend on the Natural World for survival. Microscopic plankton provide at least half the oxygen we breathe and form the foundation of the food chain, yet they are easily forgotten. This work brings plankton into the urban environment. As a Techspressionist artist, I treat plankton as living subjects, combining hand drawing and photography with digital and analogue processes, beginning with high-resolution grayscale photographs of non-living plankton. Vivid color and atmospheric textures are aesthetic expressions of their life force.
