Description:

Robot Family, 2026, imagines kinship rendered entirely through artificial bodies: two AI-generated robotic figures posed in a tender, familial embrace, evoking the universal gesture of a child sheltering against a parent. Using generative AI for character creation, the work translates a distinctly human intimacy into synthetic form, asking what emotional bonds might look like once artificial minds are given bodies, histories, and each other. Set against an alien, non-domestic terrain, the piece deliberately withholds any familiar household setting, positioning the “family” as a speculative structure still being defined. The work engages the exhibition’s AI, Media & Urban Life theme by treating generative AI not as spectacle but as a medium for reflecting on how artificial companions and intelligences are becoming embedded in daily urban experience, and what new categories of care, lineage, and relationship this may require. Displayed on a public urban screen, the work poses a quiet question to passersby: as cities increasingly integrate artificial intelligence into daily life, what forms might kinship take next.
