Description:
Unfinished Decay is an AI-assisted experimental animation that critically reinterprets Red Dinosaurs (1926), an unfinished painting by Austrian artist Klemens Brosch (1894–1926). Based on a gigapixel digitization, the project uses a fragment-based AI workflow to animate microscopic details such as brushstrokes, cracks, pigments, and dust. Rather than reconstructing or completing the artwork, subtle AI-generated movements emphasize its materiality, fragmentation, and temporal decay. The project explores generative AI as a medium for artistic interpretation of cultural heritage, while critically addressing the technological limitations and assumptions embedded in contemporary image-to-video systems.
