The work, Whale Sea, envisions a future Shanghai as an evolving underwater ecosystem, where familiar landmarks coexist with speculative marine life from daylight through dusk to night. Combining 3D modeling with generative AI skin textures mapped onto the models, the work creates “AI organisms” that embody possible life forms emerging from computation, ecology, and human imagination rather than imitating existing species. Presented as an urban digital canvas, it invites viewers to explore Shanghai as a future ocean world and reconsider AI’s role in imagining future ecologies.
