Flight
Description:
Flight is about human wonder and presence. It explores visual moments and the fleeting sense of time. As humans we use our senses and lived experience to move from one period of time into the next. Within Flight there is repetition and warping of images to express time passing and repeating. The viewer may perceive time going by yet and also repeating. The distortion and use of glitching and AI, offer a feeling of movement and perception of other worldliness. The AI clouds and garden meld smoothly with the captured and altered video. The film explores how we look at what surrounds us. We experience the world with our senses. We see, hear, touch, smell and taste. This film is about the two senses, seeing and hearing, while being present, in time. Flight is about looking out and looking up. It uses movement of birds to pull us into the short story. The film keeps us focused on the flight of the birds using repetition and a flowing sound track. The film relies on the human fascination and importance of birds in our world. It uses the symbology bird flight and recognizable urban objects, such as bridges, gardens, architecture, trees and lamps to pull in the viewer. Flight also makes use of our human desire for calm. The film’s lower range sound track furnishes a peaceful atmosphere where we can breathe more easy. Flight employs non ordinary colors. They do not match reality, again moving the film into a fantasy realm, reinforced by negative/reversed projections of the trees, bridge and birds. Even as we recognize these common features they are still unworldly and ethereal.
