Form, Image, and Meaning: A Diagrammatic Reconstruction of Dule Garden
Description:
This work refigures Dule Garden, built by the Northern Song scholar Sima Guang in Luoyang, through diagrammatic digital reconstruction. Rather than attempting archaeological or photorealistic restoration, it extracts spatial relationships preserved in texts and paintings and translates them into a digital system. The animation moves from abstract topological structures, to embodied viewing and sensory experience, and finally to the garden’s historical reinterpretation across literature, painting, and garden-making. Dule Garden is thus approached not as a lost physical object, but as a cultural schema repeatedly translated across time and media.
