Description:

Vali-e Asr Street is a real-time generative single-channel video artwork that approaches the city as a mutable container of collective and personal memory. Created through visual programming in TouchDesigner and Python-based audio processing, the work transforms imagery associated with Vali-e Asr Street in Tehran into an continuously shifting visual environment.

Extending across Tehran, Vali-e Asr functions as more than an urban pathway. It is a linear social space shaped by movement, commerce, solitude, gathering, everyday rituals, and generations of accumulated memory. In the work, recognizable elements of the street—vehicles, architecture, surfaces, light, and movement—are subjected to real-time computational distortion. Images stretch, liquefy, fragment, and reorganize, oscillating between recognizable urban scenes and abstraction.

Rather than reconstructing Vali-e Asr as a stable geographic location, the work considers how a city persists through memory: partial, unstable, emotional, and continuously rewritten. For Urban Digital Canvas Shanghai, this computational memory of Tehran would enter the architecture of another city. Displayed at urban scale in Shanghai, Vali-e Asr Street proposes an encounter between two urban environments, asking how the memory of one city can travel, transform, and acquire new meaning within the public space of another.
