Description:
Boardwalk is inspired by the American cultural form of the same name born in 1870s Atlantic City. It expresses the boardwalk’s daredevil rides, prize-winning games, and sensorial through an emotional vocabulary of colors, shapes and motion. Absent of the actual activities, or visual representations of their forms, we are left with the feelings of awe and excitement. The work interprets the boardwalk as an early attention economy, a public space engineered for captivation and delight long before the smartphone. Boardwalk asks what that lineage reveals about designed environments and media today, framing joy and spectacle as tools for reflection on how cities have always shaped our attention.
